It was with concern that APIT – Association of Independent Television Producers learned, within the scope of the Media Action Plan (Plano de Ação para a Comunicação Social), of the gradual elimination of commercial advertising on RTP.
In fact, the public broadcaster is the one that invests the most in content diversity, not only in entertainment, but fundamentally in the continued production of national fiction and documentaries. In addition, RTP has contributed to co-productions that boost and enhance the sector.
Its commitment to variety and the work it has done to promote the internationalization of the audiovisual sector cannot be overlooked without alternatives being presented.
The gradual elimination of advertising must be accompanied – like other public service models in Europe – by investment that compensates for this loss of revenue, without weakening the public service and allowing it to continue fulfilling its mission of promoting our language, culture and heritage.
APIT hopes that the government has ensured that this reduction in advertising does not compromise the sustained investment that RTP has been making, so as not to reduce the investment that has enabled the development of national audiovisual production and its internationalization.
